Data Security Specialist
Essential Functions:
• Evaluates computing and information security risk and develops response plans.
• Develops, tests and implements security solutions and procedures to ensure that systems are compliant with applicable policies, procedures, contracts and regulatory requirements.
• Analyzes and records computing security events and verifies that security parameters are in place.
• Provides consultation and advice on computing security issues.
• Develops policies and oversight to ensure computing infrastructure and applications are protected.
• Provides compliance and audit support.
• Completely understands and applies job practices, techniques, standards, principles, theories, and concepts and possesses general knowledge of other related disciplines.
• Provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems and develops solutions that are imaginative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with organization objectives.
• Independently determines and develops approaches to solutions, and receives general direction for work that is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives.
• Contributes to the completion of specific programs and projects. Failure to obtain results, reaching erroneous decisions or making recommendations would typically result in serious program delays and considerable expenditure of resources.
• Interacts frequently with inter-organizational personnel and external customers, and represents the organization by providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects.
Job Requirements
Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge and Skills:
• Defines, develops and deploys IT processes and computing standards using process management methods. Evaluates process effectiveness and identifies areas for improvement.
• Investigates, analyzes and resolves complex questions and problems related to security incidents. Tests and deploys new processes and tools for incident response. Participates on incident response teams.
• Ensures appropriate processes are in place and followed so that systems are compliant with applicable policies, procedures, contracts and regulatory requirements by monitoring, assessing and implementing security procedures. Participates in audits and assessments to determine compliance with security policies. Provides guidance to less experienced employees.
• Analyzes moderately complex and unique security events and records to determine if security incidents have occurred. Analyzes root causes, prioritizes threats, considers business impacts, recommends and takes action to mitigate threats, which could include shutting down systems, and communicates actions. Verifies that security parameters are in place by logically and/or physically reviewing and monitoring systems, determines acceptability of unique configurations. Tests and deploys new processes and tools for threat mitigation. Provides guidance to less experienced employees in the workgroup.
• Defines and provides advice and counsel in areas of applicable security requirements and solution alternatives appropriate for common and unique situations. Interfaces with wide range of individuals, teams, and leaders in business units and functions, providing initial analysis and communication. Analyzes and advises on broad range of information security and data protection aspects as applied to business and computing situations. Facilitates expanded consideration of selected situations and questions by engaging technical, business and regulatory experts from information technology, security, legal, export control, supply chain and other perspectives. Guides junior personnel in analysis and advising tasks.
