Systems Security Specialist
The Information Systems Security Specialist is responsible for providing support in the following areas: program development, standards development, risk assessment, reporting, and awareness education related to information security.
Works closely with engineers and infrastructure and application teams to develop and maintain enterprise-wide IT systems security design, security practices and procedures. Researches and reports on IT security threat profiles; intrusion detection/incident investigations and responses, including impact on Bon Secours information technology systems. Investigates security incidents and makes recommendation for future mitigation. Preferred knowledge of ITIL and industry best practices for the implementation of security products, processes and procedures. Will assist in determining appropriate security measures and creating and updating policies and procedures that monitor and control access to system resources and data as well as protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of critical information and systems.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide user education and promote security awareness to ensure system security and to improve computer and network efficiency.
• Develop plans to safeguard computer files against accidental or unauthorized modification, destruction, or disclosure and to meet emergency data processing needs.
• Consult with users to discuss issues such as computer data access needs, security violations, and programming changes.
• Monitor current reports of computer viruses to determine when to update virus protection systems.
• Coordinate implementation of computer system plan with organizational personnel and outside vendors.
• Monitor use of data files and regulate access to safeguard information in computer files.
• Perform tests of data processing system to ensure functioning of data processing activities and security measures.
• Document computer security and emergency measures policies, procedures, and tests.
• Review violations of computer security procedures and when appropriate discuss procedures with management and violators to ensure violations are not repeated.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Computer Sciences, IT Security, Business or related field. Will consider excellent qualifications in lieu of Degree.
• 2 - 5 years of demonstrated and successful design and development experience within the security environment. At least 2 years experience in a governement environment, preferably with security experience. At least 2 years experience using configuration management techniques for security design and architecture is highly desirable.
• Excellent knowledge of current data security best practices, including relevant information security legal requirements (ITIL, JCAHO).
• Project management and/or implementation experience in very large IT projects is required, as is the ability to manage a diversified team of IS professionals; experience is preferably through a multi-state system implementation or upgrade.
• Proven experience in maintaining project schedules, documentation, communications, and meeting deadlines.
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills to communicate tactfully, effectively and with discretion with all levels of employees.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Analyze and organize information.
• Demonstrated expertise in the entire Microsoft Office package which includes Access, Excel, Word and PowerPoint is required.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Takes initiative and able to collaborate in a fast-paced deadline driven environment with multiple priorities while communicating with all levels of employees.
